In order to confirm that you are part of a clergy household, we may ask for verification documents and supporting documents.

Some of these will need to be provided at the point of registration, when you first get set up on our system, while we may ask for others only after you have submitted your application.

The documents we require may vary depending on the grant or service you are applying for.

Verification documentation

This helps us to verify your status relating to a clergy household and which grants/services you can apply for.

Serving Clergy

Please provide:

  • A stipend slip (latest) as verification of your clergy status, once per calendar year
  • OR a copy of your salary slip (latest) if you are a chaplain or in a diocesan post, etc.

SSM / NSM

Please provide:

  • Copy of your Statement of Particulars, once per calendar year

Retired Clergy

If you are in receipt of a Church of England Pension, please provide:

  • Copy of your latest CEPB pension slip, once per calendar year
  • Copy of your PTO (if you have one)

Retired due to ill-health

If you are in receipt of a Church of England Pension, please provide:

  • Copy of your latest CEPB pension slip, once per calendar year
  • Copy of any ill-health state benefits you receive

Ordinand

As verification of your status, please provide one of the following:

  • Ordinand Training Certificate
  • Letter from your sponsoring diocese or TEI/DDO

Widow(er)

On an initial application, we require a copy of your spouse's/partner's death certificate.

If you receive a Church of England Pension, please provide:

  • a copy of your latest CEPB pension slip, once per calendar year

Divorced or separated spouse/partner

As verification of your divorced/separated status, please provide one of the following which displays the full name of your former spouse/partner:

  • Copy of your marriage certificate
  • Letter from either Broken Rites, your Bishop’s Visitor or Bishop/Archdeacon

Supporting documentation

To process your application without unnecessary delays, please ensure that you provide supporting documents.

To progress any application for support, we need some documents. Without these, we can't reach a decision:

  • document(s) in the category type for which you are applying
  • document(s) showing how you relate to a clergy household (listed above)
